Yes, Kamala Devi Harris was born for this time. And so were we.
Hi Friends.
One of the questions
asked me in his written interview (you can read his summary post HERE) was how the Goddesses impact and influence my everyday life. This potent question inspired today’s essay.I’d like to expand on the personal inquiry into the universal and introduce two Hindu Goddesses: Lakshmi, the Goddess of abundance and equanimity, and Durga, the Goddess of Troubled Times.
For those of you who know me, you might already be guessing where I’m going with this. For those of you who don’t know me, I ask you to keep an open mind.
Rest assured, I’m not suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris is the incarnation of the Goddesses Lakshmi or Durga. However, Kamala Devi Harris sure as hell demonstrates Lakshmi and Durgaesque qualities, and for that, I’m thrilled.
Let me explain.
Kamala = Lotus = Lakshmi
Kamala is a Sanskrit feminine name meaning lotus or lotus flower. The lotus is a symbol of beauty—beauty that has the power to rise and flourish from muddy depths. Just as we are living in the muddy depths of hatemongering and divisiveness, there is hope, knowing that collectively, we, too, have the opportunity and the power to rise.
Kamala is also one of the many names for the Goddess Lakshmi, who is known as the Goddess of abundance and wealth. However, there is a misconception that Lakshmi's energy is one of accumulation. She is not. Lakshmi reflects our rich inner qualities of love, harmony, kindness, and equanimity.
You’ll often find Lakshmi depicted sitting upon a lotus flower, her several arms holding a trident representing knowledge, aligned will, and skillful action; a discus representing illumination and a conch representing fearlessness.
Lakshmi’s attributes include the ability to embrace life with joy and to its fullness. She is also known for her laughter—sound familiar?
The fact is that we all—men and women alike—however you identify—often forget that we, too, carry within these archetypal qualities. We forget how to access our own inner superpowers. Thankfully, at times, people emerge who shake us up and help us remember our own Goddess potential.
The fabric of Lakshmi’s being is generous, generative, and beneficent. She desires to affirm the lives of all humanity, not only the rich and famous. Make no mistake: while Lakshmi is goodness personified, she is evocative and provocative, efficient and economical, never taking or using more than is necessary; she promotes the idea of sustainable living and generosity. Lakshmi is exigent, making the best choice she can in any given circumstance.
Lakshmi Takeaways: Love and engage your life fully; be generous and grateful for the riches you have; give back; don’t be greedy and don’t squander your life. Know that this manifested human life is limited and impermanent, so be happy and enjoy; celebrate the gift that it is.
Devi = Goddess = Durga
Durga is considered the Goddess of tough-going. The archetypal energy she’s associated with is the courage to overcome. The name Durga comes from the Sanskrit root Durg, meaning fortress.
Durga’s iconography is also filled with symbolism. She rides a lion or tiger, which represents confidence in embodying her primal wild nature. Durga is not afraid of her animal nature; instead, she reveres it.
In Durga’s hands, she holds a conch shell and a thunderbolt sword, which represents her ability to slice through the bullshit and get to the truth - in ourselves and others. You might see her represented with three eyes or a Bindi, which suggests her ability to see the past, present, and future. She’s fierce, intelligent, and compassionate.
Durga encourages us to access our resources and develop our skills, as knowledge and technology are powerful tools. She understands that humans live with personal and global fears. Her archetypal power is to instill a feeling of stability in an unstable and chaotic world.
Durga is one of the most worshipped and revered Goddesses in the Hindu tradition and is embraced by many others as well. Why? She’s known to be “the one who eliminates suffering.” Durga is ferocious and focused, dignified yet joyful and humorous. She's fierce and powerful and, while it may seem paradoxical, often thought of as the most compassionate one.
Durga is all about saying, Yes, people, we can! Her power is agency. She recognizes the necessity for change and takes skillful action.
Durga Takeaways: Acknowledge that when we trust and work together, we collectively face whatever we need to break away from, break through, and triumph over. Stand in your truth.
Kamala Devi Harris, or, as we currently refer to her, Vice President Harris, was born for this time in history. She is a leader we can trust to face her opponent(s) with grace and grit.
She is meant to lead our country forward and not back into the swamp land of lies, bigotry, and hate.
Friends, in less than 90 days, American citizens will be mailing in their ballots or lining up to vote for the next President and Vice President of the United States. It’s one of the most exciting times to be alive—and one of the most scary.
Much like I wrote about Celine Dion and President Biden, read HERE; like it or not, it is Kamala Devi Harris’s Dharma to run for President of the United States. Only time will tell whether or not she wins.
@Diamond-Michael brought me here. Now, I’m staying.
This was a wonderful piece—a juxtaposition of two ancient archetypes manifesting, (and I believe this to be true as well), in the body and soul of Kamala Harris. When the times truly call for it, it seems the right person comes along. There is a different kind of energy about her that I hadn’t seen before; that time, back during her first run, was not the time that called for her. And yet it placed her in the position she needed to be in to Be Here Now.
I also appreciate deeply the recognition that regardless of gender or how we identify as a human, the archetypes do reside in each of us to the degrees we recognize, accept, and nurture. I resonate strongly with the divine feminine—and I could always stand to learn more about how these ideas and ideals manifest in our daily lives. THAT is why I subscribed. THAT is why I think @Diamond-Michael placed you in my sphere of consciousness. THAT is why our paths needed to cross. Thank you Paulette—you also had me at your page’s Title: Sage Sanctuary (Because Life Is Messy).
I agree! I feel it's Kamala's karma or destiny to become president. It's so inspiring to read about the positive qualities of her two name-sake goddesses.
