I love your introduction of these goddess archetypes and how Kamala Harris embodies both. I'm also extremely delighted to learn that Kamala means lotus 🪷, a flower that I use for my Substack (I use the water lily variant). "No mud, no lotus" is my lived experience. So thrilled how Kamala Harris is fully embracing her goddess qualities and energy to inspire, unit and bring forth a healthy vision for our country.
Thank you, Louisa, I appreciate your comments. And I’m delighted too that the introduction to the Goddess archetypes resonate. Tomorrow’s post will introduce Saraswati and how she plays into it all.
I just looked at you publication and the lily you use, it’s beautiful. Plus, I subscribed! Nice to meet you here.
I look forward to your introduction to Saraswati tomorrow. I used to be obsessed with studying the Vedic culture and even studied some sanskrit (but have since forgotten all). I read about Saraswati as a holy river and there’s also a goddess associated with it if I remember correctly. I’ll find out tomorrow ;-) Thanks for subscribing to my newsletter. Very nice meeting you too!
There's a line in the chant we do during oryoki, the Zen meal service:
"May we exist in muddy water with purity like a lotus; thus, we bow to Buddha."
And as Thich Nhat Hanh so wisely teaches, no mud, no lotus. We're here for the whole enchilada, and this is our time to engage in the most loving and skillful ways possible.
I agree! I feel it's Kamala's karma or destiny to become president. It's so inspiring to read about the positive qualities of her two name-sake goddesses.
Beautiful piece and beautiful peace. The lotus picture re the mud was of course, perfect. Thank you for your balanced, thoughtful and insightful words.
Love this, Paulette! Thanks for such a thorough explanation of Kamala’s presence in the world right now. I believe she will be the next president. Trump lost in 2020 and hasn’t done anything positive to enhance his position since then.
An extraordinary read Paulette, thank you. I have that weird feeling of knowing there is so much more to the world than I see but it still gives me shivers! It’s been delightful watching the energy change in the US.
Thank you, @Gillian & Li'l Bean. Isn’t that the truth - there is so much more going on underneath that we can feel, but can’t quite put our finger on. Thanks for being here. Thanks for rooting us on from afar.
This is a wonderful piece which fills me with hope and confidence in our upcoming election. Thank you, Paulette, for teaching us about these two ancient goddesses.
Paulette, an incredible and oh so pertinent post!! I love your giving the meanings of Harris’ names from the goddess standpoint. And oh so right on they are. I’ve loved her from the start—but being from San Francisco we of the Golden State got to know her in her freshman days. Loved this.
@Jeanine Kitchel that’s fascinating that you’ve been able to witness her rise in a more concrete way.
You’ve got me thinking more about names, and the power of them. My first name is actually Paulette. Though many people mistake it for Pauline, which was my sweet mother-in-law’s. Paulette means diminutive, which is kind of funny, since it’s a longish name. However, I am diminutive in stature. Growing up I did not like it, I wanted to be Kathy or Laura like my friends. It took years for me to grow into it. I’ll have to research Jeanine. If you have already, please share.
Very welcome, Paulette. I really started to appreciate Kamala when she grilled Barr at the hearing on Mueller’s report. Elegantly lethal. My name ( and John, Jane and other derivatives) mean ‘god is gracious.’
@Diamond-Michael brought me here. Now, I’m staying.
This was a wonderful piece—a juxtaposition of two ancient archetypes manifesting, (and I believe this to be true as well), in the body and soul of Kamala Harris. When the times truly call for it, it seems the right person comes along. There is a different kind of energy about her that I hadn’t seen before; that time, back during her first run, was not the time that called for her. And yet it placed her in the position she needed to be in to Be Here Now.
I also appreciate deeply the recognition that regardless of gender or how we identify as a human, the archetypes do reside in each of us to the degrees we recognize, accept, and nurture. I resonate strongly with the divine feminine—and I could always stand to learn more about how these ideas and ideals manifest in our daily lives. THAT is why I subscribed. THAT is why I think @Diamond-Michael placed you in my sphere of consciousness. THAT is why our paths needed to cross. Thank you Paulette—you also had me at your page’s Title: Sage Sanctuary (Because Life Is Messy).
Kert, I agree with you about the different energy Harris projects now vs 4 years ago (or different things I’m seeing). She just nails every talk I see. Her fitness for this moment has taken me by surprise.
Thank you, Paulette, for this introduction to these two goddesses. I feel lucky to have a role model like Harris now in the press every day, showing us what strength and humor look like together.
Yes, @Tara Penry you and @Kert Lenseigne 🌱 named an important point. Timing! It’s so fascinating to observe that it wasn’t Kamala Harris’s time four years ago. I’m thrilled her fitness, as you eloquently state it, seems to be spot on.
I’m happy you enjoyed the introduction. It’s fun and meaningful to see how the Goddess archetypal energies play out in real time.
Jane, @Times Sensitive, it's been a long time since we've been in conversation. Although we may not agree on choice of candidate running for President and the vision they have for the future of America, I'm imagining that we both agree how privileged we are to be able to disagree.

Maia, I’m not familiar with the prayer, thank you for sharing. It’s quite beautiful.
Years ago in training with my then teacher he asked the group to journal on a question. My response came in the form of a haiku:
“Seed of love we plant - it is the highest teaching - from the muck we bloom.”
I agree! I feel it's Kamala's karma or destiny to become president. It's so inspiring to read about the positive qualities of her two name-sake goddesses.
Yes! I’m really trying to lean back and witness the greater picture play out. But I must admit, I’m invested!
Beautiful piece and beautiful peace. The lotus picture re the mud was of course, perfect. Thank you for your balanced, thoughtful and insightful words.
Thank you so much, Ian. I appreciate your comments. Great to meet you here.

Thank you, Ilona! It’s fascinating to watch this all play out.

✨🪷✨ I finally feel hope for our country!
Me too!
I appreciated the explanation of her name and am hopeful for the first time in a long time..
Me too, Janice!
This is a wonderful piece which fills me with hope and confidence in our upcoming election. Thank you, Paulette, for teaching us about these two ancient goddesses.
So thrilled you enjoyed it and that it brings hope and confidence. And, as our Vice President is know to say, we’ve still got work to do!
Happy you enjoyed the introduction to the Goddesses.
